ELEC and FRIENDS ANTI-BULLYING ART ASSEMBLY Lake Elementary

On May 7th students in Kindergarten to fifth at Lake and Hartville Elementary schools were awed by the powerful presence of Elec and Friends and our anti-bullying assembly. This entire year of art classes have been dedicated to learning about other cultures around the world through our art theme: ART BEYOND BORDERS. In addition, our focus has been learning about tolerance, respect and acceptance; about doing what you can with your own two hands to make this world a better place. This performance was made possible through our Lake Elementary and Arts In Stark SmARTs Partnership with funds from their annual arts campaign. We wish to thank our wonderful friends at Arts In Stark and our amazing administration for helping us find the funds to bring these awesome events, projects and experiences to our art students.

At the beginning of the assembly, students watched Ben Harper and Jack Johnson's music video, My Own Two Hands. This set the tone for Elec and Friends Anti-bullying performance. Elec Simon hails from Canton and has performed live with the Off Broadway show, STOMP for several years. He also performs for many of the First Friday events in Canton, Ohio. After introducing himself and his mission, Elec began by sharing a very tragic and personal story of the loss of his best friend at the age of eleven due to being bullied. Students and teachers watched as Mr. Elec and his band demonstrated that "NO ONE CAN TAKE AWAY YOUR MUSIC!"

Elec performed his drumbeats all over the gymnasium and even on a pair of crutches...

Students were big fans of the show!

Mrs. Susa, Miss Stegner with Elec and Friends. These guys are truly amazing and have a strong message for students of all ages.

Lanterns created by 4th grade project: "LET YOUR INNER LIGHT SHINE" Students used a blue print, and discovered the differences between Form and Function in art. Student lanterns lined the entire entry hall to the gym, lighting their creative ways to the performance.
