Watermelon Faces~ Lesson in Overlapping

Second grade artists examined the subject matter of portraiture, using themselves and their favorite food as inspiration for a self-portrait. The students used the entire space to create a large composition then practiced the technique of proportion and overlap to create space and depth with a 3D effect.
Students identified and used the art element of SPACE (composition) to create a self-portrait that fills the page. Students created an artwork based on observations of a favorite food from their environment and used visual effects to describe DETAILS in their artwork.
